IndyCar continues their push towards the end of the season with a doubleheader at the historic Milwaukee Mile. The track made a triumphant return in 2024 with this same double format before dropping down to just the one race last year. Back to 2 this year, but with winners of O’Ward, McLaughlin & a maiden victory for Rasmussen in 2025 it’s anyone’s guess this weekend. It’ll be a fascinating watch as oval racing always is in the NTT IndyCar series

The standings

Alex Palou had a rare off day in Markham full of mistakes while championship rival Kirkwood won in dominant fashion. While the Andretti man will rue the race in Markham, the championship charge is still on. Palou leads by 91 points but an oval double is exactly the opportunity needed for others to catch the reigning champion. I would say the same for Lundgaard and Malukas but the Dane struggles more than Palou on ovals having never finished in the top 5. Lil Dave has the Penske power behind him but has been in freefall since the return of action in Portland

My Pick to win: Christian Rasmussen

Short oval’s are with the saulton of sketch is at his best and given ECRs oval performances it feels very similar to 2025 when he won. He knows how to get it done here and I see no reason why he won’t be in the mix for one of these things

A Darkhorse: Will Power

Will finally found his power at Andretti and given his performance in Phoenix early this year, Power is in with a shout for sure and is the Honda I would be most confident in this weekend.

Pressure is on: Alex Palou

Oval’s have never been his thing and while yes he won the 500 last year, was 2nd here this time last year. He is coming off a rough race in Washington straight into this double. It’s always a game of damage limitation but how well that goes could become critical come the dying laps in Milwaukee.

Steer clear: Marcus Ericsson

Finishes of 27th, 5th and 19th don’t inspire confidence in me, Gateway could also disprove my argument but Andretti aren’t usually great at ovals and while the Swede has been in a purple patch as of late I don’t see it continuing.
